Everybody loves to have a new puppy; training and educating it is another
matter however. Some trainers see a solution in training collars for dogs,
although it takes a bit of research in order to know exactly which training
collar is the best or most appropriate to your dog's situation and
characteristics. There are also numerous variations of each kind of training
collar with different manufacturers offering various models with different
featuress.
It is best not to get bogged down by that at first; once you have selected the
variety of training collar that best suits your situation you can browse the
rest of the options
Kinds of training collars for dogs
Choosing the right type of collar can be key in the success of the training.
While it's true that every collar was made with the intention of training, each
one differs in its approach. One of the most common options is the electronic
collar. The electronic collar gives the dog a small, harmless, jolt of static
electricity whenever the dog misbehaves.
There are also choke chains available for dog training. As the name implies, a
chocke collar will constrict the dog's neck whenever the dog pulls too hard or
the owner pulls the leash towards him or her. However, proper training must be
undertaken by the owner of the dogs in order to avoid hurting the dog in the
process. Lastly, there are citronella collars, which spray the muzzle of a dog
with a lemon-like odor, either automatically or with the push of a button from a
remote control.
Regardless of which training collar you select to use, it's paramount that your
dog understands that training is taking place and that the instructions on what
the pet is or isn't supposed to be doing are clear. Without clear instructions
on what the animal has to do in order to avoid punishment, training will only
result in fear or agressiveness. It is good to keep in mind that while the use
of training collars for dogs may be uncomfortable for your dog and for you they
can be very effective and in time your dog will learn the correct behaviours and
will require very few correction signals.
Today, training collars for dogs are one of the most useful tools for dog owners. There are different classes of collars, but the most common are electronic, choking, and spray based. However, training collars for dogs should always be used in training and only under supervision and with clear instructions.
