When it
comes to grooming your Labrador you will not need anything that is out of the
ordinary in order to do a good job. As with any pet, Labrador care is a matter
of having the things you need on hand.
Brush
Brushing is essential
in Labrador care if you want your Labrador to have a clean and shiny coat. When
choosing a brush for your Labrador consider that they have sensitive skin that
is often dry, irritated or inflamed. A brush with hard or scratchy bristles will
irritate your Labradors skin and cause him to avoid the brush at all cost. You
will need to choose a grooming brush for your Labrador that has soft and pliable
bristles that will not cause irritation to skin and won’t scratch sensitive areas.
Soaps
and Shampoo
Soap and shampoo can often be the enemy to a Labradors sensitive
skin due to harsh detergents and chemicals. Avoid anything that has alcohol or
astringents in it as it will cause burning on any irritated skin. When deciding
on what you need to groom your Labrador, choosing shampoo can be a difficult task.
Look for something with vitamin E or other skin conditioners to help promote healthy
skin for your pet. Tea tree oil can soothe irritated skin, help promote healing
due to its antibacterial qualities and it’s also known to help in flea prevention.
If you are going to use shampoo, make sure to include some kind of conditioner
as well that offers moisture to your Labradors skin to help offset any drying
from the shampoo.
Toothbrush and Toothpaste
Choosing a toothbrush
for your Labradors care is fairly easy the main thing you need to worry about
is finding one that is the right size for your Labradors mouth. A small toothbrush
is going to take you much more time than one that is a bit larger. The one you
need to groom your Labrador with is one that will fit easily and comfortable in
your pets mouth or if you prefer you can get what is known as a glove or finger
brush that fits nicely over your finger and also gives you a closer feel to the
inside of your Labradors mouth.
Toothpaste for Labrador care is even easier
than choosing a toothbrush. Never ever use the same toothpaste with your dog as
you would use for yourself. Keep in mind that dogs have a habit of swallowing
and ingested toothpaste is bound to cause a very upset tummy for your Labrador.
You can find toothpaste in a variety of dog favorite flavors in any pet store.
Choose something that will help reduce and remove plaque and tartar as animals
run similar risks from these things as humans do. When you have mastered the basic
