Black Labrador Retriever or Rottweiler ?

What is the main difference between these 2 breeds ? ( I am talking about female dogs )
which is more placid, more docile, more loyal, easier to train, more eager to please and friendlier.

Black lab retriever. I have one. She is the smartest and cutest dog ever

What is a good name for a mellow, blind, male, black Labrador Retriever? Please no common names. Thanks?

Getting him by October 29.
He has many problems (bow legged, messed up hips, underweight) but he’s so loving; that’s why were rescuing him. He’s between 1-2 years old. I already have a 2 1/2 year old yellow Lab named Hunter. And I’ve tried every, and I mean every, dog-names site. I need the perfect name for my not so perfect guy.

You hit the nail on the head.

Guy

I say "Guy" is perfect because I know of a 12 yr old boy that has buck teeth, is mentally handicapped, is very loving, enjoys the simple things in life, and just wants to be loved. Your "Guy" will have loving, permanent home whereas mine is a foster child in a special needs home.

I would also add "Saint Germaine" to the end of his name. Saint Gemaine is the Patron Saint of the disabled.

He would be Guy Saint Germaine.

How do i get my 2 month old black labrador retriever puppy to STOP BITING me?

He is a 2 month old black lab and i have had him for about 3 weeks
He has a big yard with plenty of space and lots of toys

At first he didn’t really do much and he was easy to play with but now that he is bigger he is teething

Most of the time he behaves; he responds when i call him by name, he sits, he stays (sometimes), and he is calm
However there are other times when he is really hyper and he bites everything he sees (me included)
He bites my hands, legs, feet, clothes, and he jumps at me and i dont know how to get him to stop…
i have tried yelping like a dog (which worked like 3-4 times then after that he didn’t care), telling him "no", "down", & "sit" in a loud voice, tapping his nose, touching the roof of his mouth, pushed him off me and said "no", pinning him down to prove in the "alpha dog", also i tried ignoring him and walking away from him (he didn’t even care he just starts running around the yard playing with anythig he finds) i have even acted like a dog and fot on all 4′s and barked at him….but nothing works PLEASE HELP

I realize that if he has so much extra energy maybe it means i should start walking him but he hasn’t gotten any of his shots yet and he is still afraid of cars…PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE I AM TOTALLY LOST…
Wow thanks everyone its only been 2hrs and i already got a bunch of answers…I will be sure to try these techniques out

right after he bites you grab his muzzle (not too hard but hard enough to make him yelp-and when he yelps don’t let go) and show him where he bit you and let his sniff it, and in a low, stern voice tell him "no bite" (then say his name), or you can say "do you see this? (make him look at it, and then say no)". *if it doesn’t leave a mark- just show him where it was he bit you or your clothes*

don’t let him go until he makes full eye contact with you. this doesn’t really hurt them, but it lets them know who’s in control and that what they did was wrong. make sure that you go back to what you were doing before and play with him after this, to show him that you still love him., and try to play with him with a toy that you don’t mind him chewing up (let him know that this toy is okay to chew)

hope this helped! it worked with my puppy and she stopped very quickly

Should I get a Golden Retriever, a Black Labrador or an Alsatian?

I really want a dog, but I’m stuck on which one I should get out of the three dogs I have chosen. Help me choose? Thank you, I really appreciate it! =D

Goldens and Labs are very similar, however, Alsatian (or German Shepherd as they are more commonly known) is a very different dog.

What are you looking for in a dog? How much time and energy are you looking to spend training and exercising? Are you a first time owner?

Labs are puppy like dogs, GSDs tend to be more mature. GSDs are still playful, but not to the extent Labs are.

Both are intelligent dogs, GSDs are more intelligent though. Its not always a good thing. Dogs need mental stimulation. If bored, they can become very destructive. An intelligent dog can get into more trouble. My GSD can escape from just about anywhere. Intelligence does not always mean it will be easier to train.

Both are high energy dogs. Both can be very destructive if not given an outlet for this energy.

GSDs require a lot of socialization.

GSDs are more independant than Labs. Not that they don’t follow your or seek attention.

GSDs can be a handful to train. They are not recommended for first time owners.

Both are prone to hip dysplasia, both shed a lot.

Both Labs and GSD are great dogs (I don’t have a Golden). But very different..
I will always have a GSD, but I love Labs too.

ETA-
Divisha - ANY dog can bite, even the cute ones. German Shepherds are not dangerous if properly trained and socialized. Any dog that is not properly trained or supervised can be dangerous.
———-
I suppose that is an example of something else you will have to deal with with a GSD. People are constantly crossing the street and are terrified of mine. They do not react that way to my Lab. And you also have to deal with people like that who say they are vicious and aggressive.
My two are the biggest babies

Should i get a black or chocolate Labrador retriever?

Does anyone recommend one instead of the other?
I want both but could only take one.
I can’t decide, hence why im posting this up.

I have a soft spot for blacks. My grandparents always had one and it is the #1 most common Lab color in shelters.

Temperament/personality wise, color does not matter.

In my experiences I would never seek out a chocolate. When I worked at the vet clinic their was just a strange correlation of massive allergies, skin and ear issues and hypothyrodism in chocolate labs. Granted these are some of the more common health probs of Labs (along with HD) but it seemed every chocolate that walked through the door had these problems in extreme. Could be coincidence? LOL but I tend to be a little superstitious like that. I have also never cared for yellows. For no other reason than they get to looking dingy so fast. The black really hides all that much better haha.

Moreso than color, look at the litter and pick personality first. First and foremost, keep in mind the intended purpose of this pup. I know we are all a sucker for the cute puppy faces But really get a feel for the temperament of each individual puppy and choose based on that and not color. Good Luck!

Black Labrador Retriever Help.?

I have a black lab and I was just wondering
about some questions I can’t seem to find on
google or ask.
She is about two years old and
weights about,I think,40 something pounds.

1. What’s a good food brand for my dog.?
2. What should she weight.?
3. Everyone how many weeks am I
supposed to shower her.?
4. What’s a good product for shampooing her.?

I don’t want to go to a vet because I know
it will be more than I can afford.
This is my first time having a lab.
Thanks for the help.

1. A lot of people like a food called ‘Blue Buffalo’
2. She should weigh 55 - 80lbs
3. I washed my Lab every 3 weeks. I would brush her at least once a week.
4. I used Hartz flea and tick killer. If she has sensitive skin, you will want to use something made for sensitive skin.
