Peak Forest Canal - Marple Flight
The Marple flight of 16 locks raises the Peak Forest (Lower) Canal 209 feet from its lower level to Marple Junction, the junction with the Macclesfield Canal, in a little over a mile.
At the top gates of each lock there is a Ground Paddle and a centre mounted Gate Paddle. These are refered to in the video as Paddle A and Paddle B. Great care should be taken when filling these locks to first half fill the lock chamber using only the Ground Paddle, Paddle A and only when the chamber is half full should the Gate Paddle, Paddle B, be opened. Failure to follow this procedure will result in, at best, a very damp boat and at worse a sunken one.
Beware also of leaping Labradors and of road traffic when opening the bottom gates of Lock No 9

we dont have a boat but we walk canals ..
just one thing that we have both noticed.
why at the locks does the male guide the boat (steer) easy lol and the female runs around unlocking pushing pulling gates ect..
