yellow labrador good with children?
we are thinking of getting a yellow labrador puppy in dec (when the pup is 8 wks old), we have a 4 yr old boy and was wondering how they are around children? thanks in advance.
Labs are normally very sociable, however if you get a male he will be territorial & will try to be alpha. Need to be taught from the get-go that he is on the bottom rung not the 3rd or 4th. He will happily accede to the master of the house, or mistress as the case may be but will try every trick in the book to insert himself above numbers 2 & 3. Even sneaky things like "accidentally" shoulder blocking your kid & knocking him down. Don't yell or punish for things like this, simply put him in a room by himself for a few minutes while the rest of the family continues about its business. He will hate being alone & soon learn what is acceptable.

Labs are normally good with kids.
The golden rule with any dog, no matter how good, is never to leave it alone with a small child, even for a few minutes.

They are the best thing to have around children. like most dogs they shouldn't be left alone with kids. they chew on stuff at a early age. but if you stop it, it wont be a problem. but they are great with kids.

I aint had one, but a friend of mine has one and its fine with his children, apparently its the chocolate ones which you need to watch.

They are great with children if bought up right. It is important to see the puppy with it's mum and that you don't get it before 8 weeks old. Also after it has had all it vaccinations make sure it goes to puppy classes. And most important like every dog the whole family need to be the pack leader and the dog the follower..

It will still be up to you to train your dog and supervise them at all times.

Labs are great with children as long as you train them correctly…but that goes with every breed of dog. Labs need exercise and lots of it so be prepared for that too!

They are real good with children although you'll have to watch a 4 year old as the pup may knock him down while playing—take into account the temperament of the child also -is he rough and tumble kinda of guy or will the dog scare the crap out of him the 1st time it knocks him down, because he going to get knocked down at some point. The pup will be basically full grown( physically not mentality) at a year and the boy will be only 5 at that time. I think Labs are great with children but it has to do more with the child than it does the dog….

labs make great family pets
thats why they are the most popular pet in the uk
my friend got her chocolate lab pup when her son was 4 and they get on great! she has never had any issues
just watch both the dog and your lil un when they are around each other dont let either of them be too rough and you will be fine!
any dog can be good round kids
its all down to how you train them from the start

Usually Labs are great with kids. But I did have an incident with a black one once. I adopted him and he was great for a week then he bit one of my family members. He was over 100 lbs, then later I found out his previous owner kept him outside in a cage since he was young. So keep him around people as much as you can because they are highly sociable animals.

Labradors are great with kids! Unless they have had a bad history. But in your case, if the pup is only 8 weeks old, then you should be fine. Especially when the pup is growing up with children

Labs are good dogs and great with children, but they are VERY hyper! Make sure you do not get a dog from a farm, they can be poorly bread and have aggression problems. I know from personal experience!

Yes of course a labardor will be very good with children and others people, if it has been at obedience training class and socilasing enough with everybody and other dogs. Labradors are gently. Remember take it to obedience class training class and socailsing the puppy when you get it and the puppy will grow up into great perfect dog, and it needs a lot excercises good luck!
